Jeremy Wright is a wonderful tour guide.  We walked for miles around and about downtown Toronto  last Wednesday night, with Jeremy spouting a non-stop stream of facts and trivia about Toronto. Pointing out a historic theatre here, the newest town plaza there, he was a natural host.  It was a nice walk on a beautiful early spring evening.

We ended up at the Fiddlers Green pub where the Toronto Web Meetup was happening.  We arrive a few minutes early but there were already a few people there.  By 7:30 there were 30+ folks sitting around the third floor meeting room.  Since we were meeting in a pub there was a steady flow of beer  and food into the crowded room. I have to say this is the first technical meeting that I've been to that had a pool table set up in the  middle of the room!

After the initial hour of small talk the presentation started.  Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) with a lively discussion of the merits of using CSS.  One fellow ask about specifying font sizes for web pages.  This ignited a long discussion involving em's, pixels, and points trying to determine which is the best for your website.  The consensus was... it depends... what kind of page you  are creating and your target audience will dictate which is best.

There was a wide range of experience levels in the participants. There were a couple folks who stated quite bluntly that they were new to web development.  One retired gentleman spoke up and said he was looking for a hobby and HTML pages were intriguing to him.  I struck up a conversation with  a women astrologists who was using FrontPage to create a astrology web site.  She keep shushing Jeremy and  I because we were whispering  during the roundtable <g>.

I have pictures, and I will post them when I get back home.
